Electrolysis for Men: Face and Body
A note on gender: we know gender isn't a binary. This page describes the areas and concerns that many of our clients ask about, and everyone is welcome to book any treatment, whatever their gender identity. See also our page on gender-affirming electrolysis.
Stray hairs between the brows, ear hair, an uneven cheek line or neckline, the grey or white hairs that appear with age, and body hair on the shoulders, back, chest, nipples, bikini area, and genital area can all be removed permanently with electrolysis. At Celestial Electrolysis in Union Square, San Francisco, Jade treats each hair one at a time, on every skin tone and every hair color.

Areas we treat
Cheek line and neckline. Define the edges of your facial hair permanently, so you keep a clean shape with less shaving.
Eyebrows and between the brows. We can remove hairs between the brows and shape the brows permanently. Because each hair is treated one by one, you keep exactly the shape you want.
Ears. Hairs on the outer ear respond well to electrolysis.
Shoulders, back, and chest. Electrolysis can clear these areas or finish the hairs that laser leaves behind. Large areas take more time, so for dense, dark hair some clients start with laser and use electrolysis for the rest.
Nipples. Hairs around the nipples are common. Electrolysis removes them precisely, one at a time.
Bikini area. Electrolysis permanently removes hair along the bikini line, including light and grey hairs that laser cannot treat.
Genital area. We treat the genital area in a private room with care and respect. This area is more sensitive, so many clients use a numbing cream prescribed by their doctor.
Ingrown hairs and razor bumps
Ingrown hairs and razor bumps often appear where coarse or curly hair is shaved, most often on the neck and jaw. Removing those hairs permanently with electrolysis stops the cycle of shaving and irritation. If the skin is inflamed or infected, see your doctor first.
Grey, white, and blonde hairs
Electrolysis does not depend on pigment. This makes it the best option for the light and grey hairs that often appear with age, which laser cannot treat.
How many sessions?
It depends on the number of hairs and how they grow. Small areas such as a few hairs between the brows may need only a few short sessions, plus some regrowth visits. Larger areas such as the back or chest take longer.
Before your visit
- Let the hairs grow for about 1–3 days so we can see them.
- Do not pluck or wax for several weeks before or between sessions.
- Many clients use a topical numbing cream for sensitive areas such as the upper lip and the genital area. See pain, sessions, and aftercare.
Questions we often hear
Is electrolysis safe for the face? Yes, when done by a licensed electrologist with good technique. Temporary redness and small pinpoint marks are normal and heal in days.
Does electrolysis work on grey hairs? Yes. Electrolysis works on hair of any color.
Can electrolysis remove back or chest hair? Yes. Large areas take many hours, so we give you an honest estimate at your consultation. For dense, dark hair, laser first and electrolysis to finish can be faster.
Will plucking make it worse? Plucking does not cause more hair, but it can distort follicles and makes them harder to treat. Trim or shave instead while you are in treatment.
