Permanent Facial Hair Removal for Women

Chin hairs, upper lip hair, stray eyebrow hairs, and the grey or white hairs that appear with menopause can all be removed permanently with electrolysis. At Celestial Electrolysis in Union Square, San Francisco, Jade treats each hair one at a time, on every skin tone and every hair color.

Areas we treat

Chin and jawline. The most common area. Coarse chin hairs often come back after plucking; electrolysis stops them for good.

Upper lip. Fine and light upper-lip hair is hard for laser to treat. Electrolysis treats it precisely.

Eyebrows. We can shape the brows and remove hairs between them permanently. Because each hair is treated one by one, you keep exactly the shape you want.

Neck and sideburns. Hairs along the neck and sideburns respond well to electrolysis.

Grey, white, and blonde hairs

Laser targets the pigment in hair, so it does not work on grey, white, blonde, or most red hair. Electrolysis does not depend on pigment. This makes it the best option for the light and grey hairs that often appear during and after menopause.

Hormonal hair growth

Hormones from menopause, PCOS, pregnancy, or medications can cause new facial hair. If you have sudden or heavy new hair growth, talk to your doctor first. Electrolysis removes the hair you have, and your doctor can check for a cause. See electrolysis for PCOS.

How many sessions?

It depends on the number of hairs and how they grow. Small areas such as a few chin hairs may need only a few short sessions, plus some regrowth visits. Larger areas take longer. Because hairs grow in cycles, we see you every few weeks at first and less often later.

Before your visit

  • Let the hairs grow for about 1–3 days so we can see them.
  • Do not pluck or wax for several weeks before or between sessions.
  • Many clients use a topical numbing cream for the upper lip. See pain, sessions, and aftercare.

Questions we often hear

Is electrolysis safe for the face? Yes, when done by a licensed electrologist with good technique. Temporary redness and small pinpoint marks are normal and heal in days.

Does electrolysis work on white chin hairs? Yes. Electrolysis works on hair of any color.

Will plucking make it worse? Plucking does not cause more hair, but it can distort follicles and makes them harder to treat. Trim or shave instead while you are in treatment.
