Electrolysis FAQ
Short answers to the questions we hear most. Each answer links to a page with more detail.
About electrolysis
What is electrolysis hair removal? A licensed electrologist places a fine sterile probe into each hair follicle and uses a small amount of energy to destroy the part that grows hair. The treated follicle cannot grow hair again. How it works
Is electrolysis permanent? Yes. Electrolysis is the only method the FDA allows to be marketed as permanent hair removal. Hormones can create new follicles over time, which may need occasional treatment.
Does electrolysis work on grey, white, blonde, or red hair? Yes. Electrolysis does not depend on hair pigment, so it works on every hair color. Electrolysis vs laser
Is electrolysis safe for dark skin? Yes. Electrolysis is safe for all skin tones.
What method do you use? We specialize in thermolysis with the Apilus xCell Pur, a fast, precise professional device.
Comfort and safety
Does electrolysis hurt? Most people feel a quick heat or sting at each hair. Many clients use a topical numbing cream before the session. Pain and comfort tips
Is there a downside to electrolysis? It takes time, because each hair is treated one by one, and it needs a series of sessions. Temporary redness and small marks are normal; scarring is rare with good technique.
Why can't I pluck between sessions? Plucking removes the hair we need to treat and can distort the follicle. Trim or shave instead.
Sessions and cost
How many sessions will I need? It depends on the area, your hair, and your hormones. Small areas need a few months of short visits; a full beard can take 1–3 years. Sessions and timelines
